Information About Protecting Yourself from Scams and Identity Theft

SMS Message Scams
Be wary of SMS messages telling you that you've won a prize (such as a gift card) or a contest you are sure you never entered. These are usually fraudulent messages attempting to entice you to respond back and provide personal information, or persuade you to click on a link which can load malicious software onto your device. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Reporting Identity Theft and Phishing
TD Bank will never ask you to confirm your account number, PIN, password or any other personal information via e-mail. If you are concerned that you have received fraudulent e-mail, disclosed confidential information or have questions about online security, please contact the TD Bank Phishing and Identity Theft Hotline at 800-893-8554.

Please visit the Anti-Phishing Working Group website for more information about current phishing attacks, at www.antiphishing.org.

Data Incidents
Reports about the unintentional release of credit and debit card numbers as well as other personal information such as phone numbers and email addresses from large retailers have recently made news headlines. It's not always immediately clear how these incidents occur or if a particular individual or business may be impacted. Using your card at a retailer in question does not automatically mean fraud will occur on your account, but you should be checking for unusual activity. The theft of e-mail addresses and phone numbers, while seemingly harmless, may result in financial losses through less direct means such as phishing and phone scams.

TD Bank has fraud detection processes in place to help protect our customers and we may contact you to verify account activity; however, we will not ask you for sensitive information such as your Online Banking password or card PIN. Our consumer debit and credit cards also have Visa's Zero Liability Protection, so in the unlikely event that fraudulent charges are made with your card or account information you won't be held responsible1.

Learn how to keep your finances secure both online and offline.

For concerns related to debit card transactions or a lost or stolen debit card, please call 1-888-751-9000 anytime or visit your local TD Bank.

Security Bugs
TD has put in place defenses to protect against potential threats so customers can conduct their banking securely and without their data being at risk. TD also has multi-layered authentication safeguards in place. Although no customer actions are necessary, we generally recommend changing passwords regularly.
